How Does the IRLNEP Support Community Partners?

The Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program supports our community partners by providing both technical and support services. Staff serve on a number of boards and committees to provide expertise and support for the work of agencies, local governments, academic institutions and NGOs working to restore water and habitat quality in the lagoon.

We offer grant writing support to local governments, academic institutions and community groups working on lagoon-focused research, restoration and education efforts. This support is offered at no cost to the requesting organization and is provided on a first come, first served basis.

We help our stakeholders build capacities for their organizations and for lagoon restoration.

Most recently, the IRLNEP funded a five-partner seagrass nursery network working to maximize its capacity to grow seagrasses for both restoration and research. The network is providing jobs, educational and volunteer opportunities for the public.

What Is the Lagoon-Wide Restoration Community of Practice?

Through a $9.4 million Transformational Habitat Restoration and Coastal Resilience grant from NOAA, the IRLNEP has convened a lagoon-wide community of restoration practice. This informal group focuses on:

  • Seagrass restoration
  • Filter feeder restoration
  • Shoreline restoration

This community comes together to share best practices and information, brainstorm about emerging issues, and assist in the technology transfer needed to ensure all restoration practitioners in the watershed have access to the best available science.

How Does IRLNEP Ensure Transparency for Partners?

To both ensure transparency and assist partners by providing information, the IRLNEP maintains a master project map of every project the IRLNEP has funded since 2016, along with access to official documents and reports that provide deeper insight into program decisions and outcomes.
